LED stands for light-emitting diode. It is a two-lead semiconductor light source that converts electricity into visible light.
LEDs have been around for over 50 years but until the early 2000s they were only used as indicator lamps in electronic devices. Thanks to breakthroughs in the recent years and the rapidly evolving technology, LEDs are nowadays used to successfully replace traditional
incandescents, halogen and (compact) fluorescent lighting. And even though this nature friendly technology is already very advanced, it is still being improved daily, ensuring countless interesting opportunities. LED has many essential advantages and is therefore considered the lighting source of the future.
